A Serious Approach to Engineering Memes

A Serious Approach to Engineering Memes

The meme article that we published a year ago on April Fool’s Day was one of our most read articles last year. While growing our website’s audience (which is typically academic) could be seen as a good thing, as the boring, stiff, and fun hating people we are at the BYU Design Review, we decided that enough is enough. It’s time we take a more academic and serious approach to memes. In an attempt to do so, we turned our meme article this year into a social experiment. We had engineering students send in some of their favorite memes, and we extrapolated some key findings from what they found funny and organized the submitted memes accordingly.

Finding #1: Engineers do not sleep enough, and if you see one, they probably need a hug.

Finding #2: Engineers find both competence and accuracy overrated.

Finding #3: Mechanical engineers did not become engineers because they wanted to code.

Finding #4: Engineers aren’t always the most sensible bunch.

Finding #5: Engineers absolutely love dad jokes.

Happy April Fool’s Day from the BYU Design Review! You can read our previous meme articles at the links below:
